Fast fashion is falling out of favour and for good reason. It’s wasteful, unethical, and honestly it’s not very cool to wear something that cost someone else their dignity (or the planet its health).
Our customers tell us they want more:
Transparency in what they buy
Pride in what they carry
Beauty with depth
You’re not alone.
Over 70% of Gen Z and Millennials say sustainability influences their buying decisions
Searches for vegan leather handbags are growing every year
Even heritage fashion houses are slowly pivoting — but we’ve been here from the start
I still remember the first time someone asked me on the tube, “Is that bag vegan?”
At first, I was surprised — not because it was a strange question, but because it was so refreshingly intentional. She was not just admiring the look of it but she was curious about what it stood for? More importantly she wanted to touch and feel it because she expected something non-leather to feel completely different to the real thing.
That’s when I realized: the women (and men!) choosing LaBante London aren't just shopping. They're voting with their wardrobes.
Because style with substance isn’t just a trend it’s actually a revolution. And at the heart of that revolution? Sustainable vegan handbags!
But let’s take a step back — what does that really mean?
Eco-luxury is fashion with intention. It’s about elevating the things you use every day — your bag, your wallet, your key fob — and making sure they’re made the right way.
100% vegan and cruelty-free
Made with sustainable, certified materials
Crafted in ethical working environments
Designed to last seasons, not follow trends (hence the classic styles)
When you carry a LaBante bag, you're carrying a story — one of compassion, craft, and consciousness.
You’ve probably seen the headlines — the fashion industry is one of the biggest global polluters, second only to oil. But beyond the carbon footprint and mountains of waste, there’s a more uncomfortable truth:
Fast fashion thrives on exploitation.
Low-cost clothing is only “cheap” because someone else pays the price - this is often underpaid workers in unsafe conditions.
Let’s talk about what that looks like:
Toxic chemicals used in cheap dyes pollute rivers and soil in developing countries
Plastic-based fabrics (like polyester) shed microplastics with every wash! ( Yup you heard that right! Every wash!!)
Overproduction leads to landfills overflowing with unsold inventory
Workers — mostly women — are paid far below a living wage and work long hours without safety protections
On April 24, 2013, the world watched in horror as the Rana Plaza building collapsed in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The structure housed several garment factories producing clothing for some of the world’s biggest fast fashion brands.
Over 1,100 people were killed. More than 2,500 were injured. Most of them were young women, sewing for pennies a day under life-threatening conditions.
Why did the building collapse?
Cracks had been discovered the day before — yet workers were forced back in.
There were no proper safety inspections or regulations.
And the unrelenting demand for fast, cheap production left no room for humanity.
It was a tragedy — and a turning point. “Who made my clothes?” became a global question and Fashion Revolution was born! People started to look beyond the label - at not only the brand but also the values it carried!
Fast fashion isn’t going anywhere overnight — but your choices can make a difference. Here’s how:
